Best Antique Florida license plates: Those terrific, big old '20s issues, with the Florida map are the best of Florida's state issued old license plates. Probably the 1925 orange on green tag. For post WW2 issues, the 1951 Keep Florida Green plate is pretty, and ahead of its time. Best of the "Not-so- Old Florida license plates: The original ones still on the cars are getting old, and that orange halo in the center is looking more like rusty road dirt as the years go by. But can anyone deny the historic significance of the Challenger special issue tag? (Which, depending on whether you collect graphics or not, ,ay not be a good thing.) Toughest/Most Rare Florida plates: The oversized antique Florida license plates of the 1920s are tough to find with original paint, AND with original weight tabs that match the license plate. But without splitting hairs, the 1918 first issue flat -- which happens to be the last first issue in the Lower 48. That covers state issues, but no mention of old Florida license plates can ignore the rainbow of county and city issue prestate license plates of the circa 1911 through 1917 era. Most of these are porcelain license plates, and not all have even been exhaustively documented.
