Utah license plates first were issued in 1915. Utah license plates are known for unique slogans during the 1940s, including "Center Scenic America" and "This is the Place." The 1944 Utah license plates are also unique; they consisted of a motorcycle license plate-sized paper decal that was sandwiched between a clear front piece, and a rear backing. The odd item was treated as a true license plate, and mounted directly to automobiles.
