Best Antique Virginia license plates: The 1927 Virginia plate is called the "Christmas Tree" plate, for a unique red on green color combination. The green isn't really an evergreen hue, and is actually more Spring-like. But it still reminds you of Christmas. The 1921 Virginia has the distinct designation of being the largest state-issued license plate in the US. If you were issued a six digit number which happened to have a separator dash, (because not all six digit plates of that year did), you're looking at 111 square inches of tin: six inches high, by eighteen and a half high. Best of the "Not-so- Old Virginia license plates: Got a post-War run of Virginia plates? (It doesn't have to be a complete run, but anyway): Lay it out on the floor, and what catches your eye? Probably these two: the '44, and the '53. The 1944 fiber is unique as America's only embossed fiber license plate. The 1953 is an ordinary orange on blue, but like Nevada, something impelled them that year to go for a little splash outside of the standard color scheme. Toughest/Most Rare Virginia plates: Virginia issued a porcelain plate from 1906 through 1909. Undated, white on black with a "VA." in the lower right...and impossible to find!
